BAE Systems has secured a $500m contract to carry out extensive mid-life upgrades of the Royal Netherlands Army’s Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) fleet.
Awarded by the Dutch Defence Materiel Organization (DMO), the contract requires BAE Systems to equip 122 CV90s with new turrets and other upgrades, with the option of 19 additional vehicles.

Developed by BAE Systems Hägglunds in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, the new turret is designed based on a recent study and years of experience to enhance the vehicle’s capabilities.
The main weapon position has been changed to improve vehicle balance, accommodate new weaponry and offer ergonomic improvements.
Royal Netherlands Army strategy and plans head Colonel Norbert Moerkens said: “This is an important step to make sure that our Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) and our army are well prepared for many years to come.
“This mid-life upgrade will also result in a lowering of the vehicles lifetime cost, at the same time as keeping our soldiers safe in the face of new threats.”

By GlobalDataCurrently, the work to equip the Dutch CV9035 vehicles with multiple enhanced capabilities is already underway.
It includes equipping the vehicles with an Active Protection System (APS), Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), Electro-Optic Aiming System (EOPS), as well as upgrading its electronic systems.

In November, BAE Systems Hägglunds secured the contract to extend the service life of the Swiss Army’s CV9030 combat vehicles.
