The test was conducted at Integrated Test Range (ITR), Balasore, in the state of Odisha, where the BrahMos Land-Attack Cruise Missile (LACM) achieved a top speed of Mach 2.8.

BrahMos missile is jointly developed by India and Russia. The original version has a range of around 290km and has already been inducted in the armed forces.

The missile was developed in two variants for land-attack and anti-ship roles.

Earlier this month, India and Philippines reportedly planned to sign BrahMos supersonic cruise missile deal next year.

The agreement was expected to be finalised earlier this year. However, the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic pushed back the signing. The two countries have been negotiating the deal since last year.
