European drone manufacturer Quantum Systems has secured contracts from the Spanish Armed Forces for two different systems from its portfolio – Vector and Twister.
This acquisition marks the Spanish Armed Forces as the inaugural client to use the company’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) offerings.
Under a framework agreement between the partners, Spain will enhance their medium-range reconnaissance capabilities with an order of 91 Vector systems, including 182 drones.
The Vector systems are slated for deployment across various branches of the Spanish Armed Forces to support ISR missions by providing endurance, reliability, and adaptable mission support.
The initial deployment of Vector systems will benefit the Spanish Army and Marine Infantry, with deliveries expected to commence in 2025.
Further information regarding the implementation of Vector and details about the framework agreement will be disclosed at the International Defence & Security Exhibition (FEINDEF), scheduled for 12-14 May in Madrid, Spain, noted the company.

By GlobalDataSimultaneously, the Spanish Air Force has acquired several Twister systems for their specialised units.
These units will use Twister for short-range reconnaissance tasks in highly fluid operational environments. The acquisition includes options for additional systems.
Quantum Systems chief sales officer Martin Karkour said: “Spain will be at the forefront of the use of tactical aerial reconnaissance in Europe.
“The Spanish Armed Forces recognise that aerial intelligence is a strategic asset, across service branches. We are proud to support them with scalable, full spectrum ISTAR solutions that enable faster, better-informed decision-making.”
With both Twister and Vector integrated into their operations, the Spanish Armed Forces will fully leverage Quantum Systems’ Family of Systems architecture designed to support ISTAR missions at varying ranges, said the company.
Last month, Spain’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) received the last unit of the Chinook CH-47F helicopter at the Colmenar Viejo base of the Spanish Army Airmobile Force (FAMET).
This modernised version of the helicopter features a lighter and more resistant carbon fibre airframe, a loading capacity of ten tonnes.
