Global Komited, Weststar General Service

Global Komited, a subsidiary of the Weststar Group of Companies, will supply ten initial Weststar General Service (GS) cargo military vehicles to the Timor Leste Defence Force (F-FDTL).

The acquisition forms part of the F-FDTL’s military vehicle line-up expansion exercise.

The vehicles, which have been acquired under a RM2.2m ($686,704) agreement, are customised and fabricated using 40% parts and materials sourced locally in Malaysia.

Capable of performing a wide range of security and defence roles, it is available in hard and soft tops, as well as manual and automatic transmissions.

It is air-transportable and is built on the base model of a civilian chassis, which can accommodate around ten soldiers with full gear and cargo.

The 750kg low-maintenance utility vehicle features a 2.5l engine, and operates on road and cross-country operations.

Weststar Group senior vice-president Dato’ Nik Hamdan said: "We strongly believe, with the strong partnerships that we have forged with our synergistic knowledge and technical partners, we will be able to break more grounds and penetrate more new markets beyond local shores."

The company is expected to complete delivery within four months, while the initial batch of ten units is part of the 50 units that are be delivered later this year.

The total contract value is estimated at approximately RM11m ($3.4m).
