The Sri Lanka Army is fully prepared to undergo a reorganisation programme beginning in January 2011, Commander Jagath Jayasuriya has said.

“Under this programme, an army division will be established in every district in the country and all the areas which come under the special task forces will be taken over by the army,” he said.

The military training centres of the army, such as Diyatalawa, Maduru Oya, would be developed further and the soldiers will be given advanced training for future combat, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Sri Lankan troops would also be deployed to Lebanon for peacekeeping operations and the country will provide military training to troops of foreign nations.

The reorganisation concept of the army was conceived by Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
