The reliability and modification (REMO) 870 kit upgrade programme for the Swedish armed forces has successfully completed its critical design review.

Under the REMO 870 programme, ITT Corporation will upgrade the radar systems with state-of-the-art processing, and transmitter, antenna and display technologies to enhance their reliability and autonomous operation.

The PS-870 radar system, otherwise known as the land-based coastal radar, is a coastal, gapfiller radar system that automatically detects and tracks both surface and airborne targets in difficult clutter environments.

The $44.9m contract signed in May 2008 intends to provide the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration with key technology upgrades to further enhance the Swedish air defence networks.
