Major General David Shaw has taken charge as the General Officer commanding the UK Army’s 2nd Division.
Shaw will assume command of the largest regional forces division in the UK, with control of over almost 25,000 troops. He will also take up a ceremonial role as governor of Edinburgh Castle.

Prior to the role, Shaw was the army’s director of media and communication at Headquarters Land Forces in Wilton, Wiltshire.
He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1976 and served in Germany, Cyprus, Bosnia and Northern Ireland.
Shaw replaces Major General Andrew Mackay, who quit his post in September 2009.
