Oshkosh Corporation will showcase its fuel-efficient Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) A3 at Calstart’s Hybrid Truck Users Forum in Atlanta, US, this October.
The HEMTT A3 is equipped with Oshkosh’s ProPulse diesel electric hybrid system, which significantly improves fuel economy through the application of a hybrid drive-train in a military vehicle.

The Oshkosh HEMTT A3 successfully completed a wide range of test trials in September 2009 which demonstrated a 24% improvement in fuel economy at a cruising speed of 60mph and a 33% improvement in a start-and-stop cycle.
In addition, the vehicle features a crew environment to reduce noise and vibration, and also offers a simplified drive-train, which improves vehicle capabilities and cuts maintenance requirements.
The HEMTT A3 also has a variable height independent suspension and lower centre of gravity for increased manoeuvrability and handling and is equipped with a load handling system which can off-load a C-130 aircraft.
The truck is well suited to support initial deployment of troops, bring electrical power to remote areas, as well as support recovery missions in the event of a natural disaster.
