The global defence industry will focus on London as of today, with the start of the world’s biggest defence and security exhibition Defence Systems & Equipment International 2009 (DSEi 2009).
This year’s event highlights a rapidly evolving environment in the security sector, with countries increasingly looking to integrate defence and national security needs to counter a diverse range of threats including drug trafficking, piracy, terrorism and insurgency.
The unprecedented range of technologies and systems needed to fight not only conventional warfare but to maintain national security will, therefore, be a focus of the biennial event.
Never without controvsery, DSEi is expected to draw the attention of protestors, mostly against the international arms trade, at its ExCeL location in London’s Docklands from 8 to 11 September.
Inside the gates, however, the latest in land, sea and air capabilities from more than 1,350 companies from 40 countries will be showcased during the four-day event.
