The US Army has awarded a $9.9m contract to Israeli defence systems group ITL Optronics to supply a state-of-the-art electro-optic system.

Under the contract, ITL subsidiary Fraser-Volpe will provide the US ground forces with the new surveillance equipment, which integrates 3rd generation thermal imaging, fully eye-safe laser rangefinder up to six miles, high-resolution CMOS day camera, a built-in GPS, a digital compass and an inclinometer.

The company will deliver the system in 2009 and 2010.
