Canada has awarded ITT a $6.9m follow-on contract to supply the Canadian Forces with AN/PVS-14 monocular night vision devices.

The AN/PVS-14 is a lightweight and reliable night vision goggle that provides enhanced resolution for target recognition and identification.

The device can be hand-held, head- or weapon-mounted as well as fitted to a camera.

The generation III system includes a gallium arsenide photocathode to improve image resolution under low light conditions.

In addition, the micro-channel plate, used as a generation II image intensifying tube, is now coated with an ion barrier film for increased tube life.

The first $19m order for the goggles was placed in 2004 as part of the Canadian Army’s Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Night Observation programme.
