The US Air Force has awarded both Boeing and Lockheed Martin a
US$75m contract to continue work on a high-bandwidth satellite
communications network.
The US Department of Defense said the new contracts build on existing contracts under the Transformational Communications Satellite programme, which is developing a communications-satellite system that will provide high-speed network connections for the military.
Both companies are developing prototypes for the network and the Pentagon will choose one company to build the new satellite system.
