Navistar Defense, a division of heavy truck maker Navistar International, has received a US$1.3bn contract from the US Army for medium tactical vehicles and parts.

The three-year contract will see Navistar provide medium tactical vehicles and spare parts to the Afghanistan National Police, Afghan National Army and the Iraqi defence ministry.

Navistar says half the new order, which involves 7,072 vehicles and parts, will be delivered during the first year of the contract, with nearly 1,000 units expected to be delivered in fiscal 2008.
