UK defence firm Cobham has acquired US intelligence and ballistic missile defence technology company SPARTA in a US$416m deal.

Cobham says the acquisition will help it transform its position in the US intelligence market.

In 2006, Cobham reported revenues of just over US$1bn, and SPARTA US$297m.

The deal is subject to regulatory and shareholder approval.
