General Dynamics C4 Systems has received a US$250,000 task order from the US army to integrate a sniper detection system with the Land Warrior system.
The Boomerang sniper detection system, developed by BBN Technologies, will work with the Land Warrior, an integrated ensemble worn by soldiers that enhances their war fighting combat efficiency and reduces the risk of them accidentally shooting allies.
The Boomerang comprises a group of small microphones and a digital display which detects and analyses the muzzle blast and shock wave from a speeding bullet to display the precise distance and direction of the sniper.
The system will allow soldiers to respond to a sniper’s shot within seconds.
The initial six systems will be used by a Stryker Brigade Combat Team currently serving in Iraq.
