ThalesRaytheonSystems (TRS) has been selected by Germany to supply six Ground Master 400 (GM 400) long-range air defence radars for the Aktives Radarrundsuchgerät für den Einsatzführungsdienst (ARED) programme.

The $140m ARED contract was awarded by the German Federal Office for Defense Technology and Procurement.

TRS French Operations CEO Philippe Duhamel said the Ground Master radar systems are capable of detecting traditional and unconventional threats for homeland and tactical air defence.

The GM 400 is part of TRS’ digital 3D air defence Ground Master radar family and has been acquired by Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Malaysia and Slovenia.

TRS, in collaboration with Thales Germany, will work with local German companies to replace the six Thales Medium-Power Radars and supply the new radars by 2015.
