L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a $256m order to continue the production of Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular (ENVG-B) for the US Army.

This marks the US Army’s first order under the Program of Record (POR) full-scale production indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract.

L3Harris said that this IDIQ is expected to reach nearly $1bn over the coming ten years.

The company describes its ENVG-B system as a helmet-mounted, dual-waveband goggle, which incorporates ‘fused white phosphor’ and ‘thermal’ technologies.

ENVG-B provides soldiers with advanced capabilities to detect, engage, and neutralise threats, thereby improving mission outcomes and safety.

The system’s situational awareness is achieved through high Figure of Merit levels, enabling greater visibility at night and in low-light conditions, the company said.

In addirion, the fusion of Image Intensified white phosphor tubes and thermal imaging offers soldiers real-time, actionable intelligence.

The ENVG-B also allows for safer manoeuvring, as soldiers can see around corners without exposing themselves, and it improves target identification and engagement accuracy.

Additionally, soldiers can maintain their focus on threats while accessing critical information from maps or radios.

US Senator Jeanne Shaheen said: “L3Harris’ Londonderry workforce plays a critical role in support of our national security. This award I helped secure for the ENVG-B programme will continue to support production of their cutting-edge night vision capability for the warfighter.

“I’ll continue working in Congress to keep New Hampshire on the frontlines of producing this critical technology.”

So far, L3Harris has delivered over 13,000 ENVG-B systems to the US Army.

The company’s portfolio also includes more than 20,000 advanced vision goggles delivered to warfighters globally, such as the Binocular Night Vision Device – Fused solution.

The first batch of combat-ready ENVG-B systems, totalling 656 units, were delivered to the US Army in May 2020 as part of an initial $391m directed requirement contract awarded in 2018.

Subsequent order includes an ‘other transaction authority’ (OTA) order received by L3Harris in October 2020 with a cumulative value of around $442m.

Under this OTA order, the company secured its second $100m ENVG-B POR delivery order in September 2021.
