The Indian Ministry of Defence has opened new BrahMos Aerospace Integration & Testing Facility Centrein Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh to boost nation’s defence capabilities.
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the facility which is set to drive the country’s efforts towards self-sufficiency in defence product manufacturing.

Singh said that the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is a product of the combined defence technologies of India and Russia.
The BrahMos Aerospace facility is expected to contribute to the socio-economic development of the region, especially the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), through substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The facility has already generated around 500 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs.
Spanning 200 acres, the centre will focus on integrating various missile components, including booster subassemblies, avionics, propellant, and ramjet engines. The project took 40 months to complete.

By GlobalDataThe complex, which cost approximately Rs3bn ($35.13m), also plans to include a programme centre with design and administrative blocks.
This complex not only paves the way for skill development among industry professionals and entrepreneurs but also promotes the establishment of an entire defence ecosystem of ancillary and sub-assemblies in the vicinity.
It aims to provide substantial industrialisation and skill development opportunities, thus preventing the need for migration in search of employment.
Singh said: “A total of 180 MoUs have, so far, been signed in UPDIC with a proposed investment of Rs340bn, and an investment of Rs40bn has already been made.
“Major investments have been made in aircraft manufacturing, UAVs, drones, ammunition, composite & critical materials, small arms, textile and parachute etc. The highlight is that the participation of both public sector and the private sectors are being witnessed.
“In Lucknow itself, titanium and super alloy material plants are being started by PTC Industries. In addition, the foundation of seven additional critical projects is being laid. This would accelerate the pace of India’s self-reliance in the defence sector.”
