Elbit Systems has secured a contract to supply ammunition for the Swedish Armed Forces’ Leopard main battle tanks (MBTs).

The nearly $27m contract was awarded by the Swedish Defence Material Administration.

As agreed, Elbit Systems will deliver M339 120mm ammunition and data setting units for the Leopard tanks.

The M339 is a high-accuracy, multi-purpose 120mm tank ammunition, that is suitable for all Nato 120mm smooth bore gun MBTs.

According to Elbit Systems, the ammunition will boost the firepower of Leopard MBTs, and will enable them to strike different types of targets.

Elbit Systems Land general manager Yehuda (Udi) Vered said: “I believe that this selection by Sweden underscores the growing recognition by Western armies of the unique quality of our portfolio of products.”

The company will conduct the contract works over a period of ten months.

Headquartered in Israel, Elbit Systems is associated with several defence, homeland security, and commercial programmes globally.

The company is active in the areas of aerospace, land and naval systems, munitions, C4ISR, uncrewed systems, electronics, and communications systems, among others.

In December last year, Elbit Systems secured a $350m contract to supply a suite of land systems to an undisclosed customer.

The company, along with Roboteam, had also unveiled a multi-payload military 6X6 uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) called Rook, last year.

Rook is designed to perform multiple missions, including delivering supplies and evacuating. The UGV can also be used for intelligence gathering missions, and as a remote weapon system.
