Nato Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has contracted EKA to support the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and repair and recovery vehicles (RRVs).
The multi-million-pound deal encompass the expanding fleet of vehicles, including both launchers and recovery vehicles.
EKA managing director Michael Keech said: “While recovery platforms will always be part of our DNA, this contract shows how our core values – capability, value for money and customer focus – translate across the wider defence space.
“This isn’t just compliance for compliance’s sake. It’s about making sure vehicles and people can perform safely and reliably, whatever the mission demands.”
In collaboration with System Design Evaluation (SDE), EKA will act as the primary contractor and provide continuous safety and environmental support services for both the MLRS and RRV fleets.
The scope of work involves hazard identification and analysis, risk evaluation, human factors integration, and the preparation of safety documentation in accordance with Def Stan 00-56 and associated MoD safety regulations.

SDE CEO Gordon Storey said: “We’re proud to be working alongside EKA on this programme. Safety and environmental assurance must be thorough, consistent, and transparent – especially on platforms where risk profiles change over time.
“Our role is to make sure that assurance holds up in the real world, not just on paper.”
The contract is scheduled to commence from late April 2025 and will run for an initial three years. It has options for potential extensions based on future requirements.
EKA previously spearheaded winch system upgrades for the RRV and is at the forefront of the A2 RRV variant development. It has also provided through-life support for three generations of military recovery vehicles.
The contract also builds upon EKA’s and SDE’s prior support to NSPA on the MLRS B1 and A2 RRV configurations, as well as EKA’s role as the design agent for the next-generation A2 platform.
