German weapon manufacturer Diehl Defence has closed the acquisition of e.sigma Systems, a  strategic move which bolsters its advanced training and simulation capabilities.

The takeover includes subsidiary e.sigma Technology along with operational bases in Munich and Ilmenau.

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Post-acquisition, e.sigma will maintain its operational independence in the market, retaining its management structure and continuing to offer its full range of products and services.

The deal will allow e.sigma to scale up its growth through collaboration with Diehl Defence, a prominent system house.

For Diehl Defence, which specialises in air defence, e.sigma contributes strategically by providing advanced training capabilities for air defence systems, emphasising the principle “train as you fight.”

Diehl Defence CEO Helmut Rauch said: “With the acquisition of e.sigma, we strengthen our expertise with innovative training and simulation technologies. This decision fits perfectly into our growth strategy and represents a win-win situation for both companies, the market and our customers.

“We are also very pleased that Müllner will support the company as a consultant during the transition period. His many years of experience and technical expertise will help to ensure a smooth change of management and to prepare the company for its new future in the best possible way.”

e.sigma Systems specialises in the development of training and simulation technologies designed for military mission scenarios.

The company’s product range includes simulation systems catering to a variety of platforms and command and control systems, as well as customisable training centres.

One of the key products from e.sigma is e.TACCS, a tactical command and control platform designed for use across all military branches.

This platform features an open and modular system architecture and can run both on local servers and cloud-based platforms.

Additionally, the company offers “KOFA – Advanced Voice Processing System,” a software solution powered by AI that delivers secure communication capabilities without the need for internet connectivity, applicable in both military and civilian sectors.

e.sigma’s former managing director Josef Müllner said: “The handover to Diehl Defence, a family-owned and renowned company in the defence industry, facilitates this significant milestone and provides e.sigma with a roof under which it can continue to grow.

“Culture, skills and portfolio complement each other perfectly and guarantee a successful takeover and further development which also opens up long-term career prospects for e.sigma employees.”

In October 2024, Diehl Defence announced that Bulgaria had become the latest IRIS-T SLM user family member.
