BAE Systems Hägglunds has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) to collaborate on the BvS10 all-terrain vehicle for the Italian market.

The agreement centres on localising the design and manufacturing of Italian variants of the BvS10, utilising the expertise of both companies and Italian workforce capabilities.

BAE Systems Hägglunds general manager Tommy Gustafsson-Rask said: “We are proud to collaborate with Iveco Defence Vehicles to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Italian Armed Forces. This partnership combines the technical expertise of both companies, ensuring the BvS10 is tailored to support Italy’s defence need.

“It also reinforces our commitment to enhancing European defence capabilities and bolstering the industry’s growth.”

The partnership builds on previous cooperation between BAE Systems and IDV, with the goal of enhancing national security and industrial capabilities.

Iveco Defence Vehicles CEO Claudio Catalano said: “IDV is a longstanding partner for the Italian Army. We are committed to continuing our effort in offering the highest standards of survivability, performance, reliability and safety to satisfy the diverse needs of the Italian Army and the Armed Forces all over the world.

“With the agreement signed today, we will leverage the expertise, technological know-how and experience of IDV and BAE Systems to deliver the BvS10 to the Italian Army.”

Developed by BAE Systems, the BvS10 is an armoured all-terrain vehicle engineered to deliver comprehensive operational support in environments where conventional vehicles fall short.

Its advanced mobility systems ensure enhanced manoeuvrability across a wide range of challenging terrains—whether snow, ice, rock, sand, mud, or steep mountainous regions.

The BvS10 is fully amphibious, capable of navigating flooded zones and coastal waters.

Featuring a modular design, the BvS10 can be adapted for various missions, including personnel transport, command and control, ambulance services, vehicle recovery, logistics, situational awareness, and as a weapons platform.

The vehicle is currently in service with military forces in Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, the UK, and Ukraine.

The agreement is expected to facilitate the Italian Army’s integration of the BvS10.

In December 2024, BAE Systems secured $68m in contracts to deliver 44 additional cold weather all-terrain vehicles (CATV) to the US Army.

The CATV is part of the BvS10 family and serves as an unarmoured version known as Beowulf. It was selected by the US Army in 2022 to replace the older Bv206 for Arctic missions.
