Baylin Technologies subsidiary Advantech Wireless Technologies has secured orders for its satellite communication (SATCOM) Engage Class 1.2m and 2.4m FlyAway Terminal from a Nato country.

The flexible and compact Engage Class Flyaway Terminal Solution includes advanced SATCOM technology and features a fully integrated tri-band system, which has been designed for strategic applications.

Tested for the highest level of performance and compliance with military requirements, the complete Satcom terminal is based on ruggedised tri-band ready 1.2m and 2.4m Flyaway Antennas.

These antennas are capable of covering X-Band, Ku-Band, or Ka-Band by replacing the feed and are fully motorised. They also include an integrated satellite detection controller.

Baylin Technologies president and CEO Randy Dewey said: “The products that have been ordered from Advantech are advanced satellite terminals, which include state-of-the-art digital and RF technologies.

“These orders are part of a complex modernisation programme that this active Nato member and has been undergoing in the field since 2017.”

The RF section of the terminal includes Advantech’s Gallium Nitride (GaN) based technology, Solid State Power Amplifiers / Block-Up Converters (SSPAs/BUCs), X-Band from 20W to 100W, Ku-Band from 16W to 125W and Ka-Band from 10W to 40W.

Advantech Wireless Technologies business development vice-president Cristi Damian said: “Within a completely modular and integrated solution, the terminals can uplink two independent carriers (up to 50 Mbps each) allowing simultaneous communication with both upper and lower echelon.”

In January 2018, Advantech Wireless’ 1.2m Engage Class VSAT FlyAway Terminal was certified by a Nato customer.
