Canada’s apparel industry registered a 5.2% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 8.1% in October 2021 when compared with September 2021.

Out of the apparel industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 14.13% share in October 2021, recording an increase of 2.2% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s apparel industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.56% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s apparel industry in October 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 83.77% in October 2021, registering a 45.58% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer Support Specialists claimed a 5.26% share, an increase of 50% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 4.82%, registering a 22.22% rise from September 2021.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 4.39%, down 62.96% over the previous month.

Top five apparel companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 43.72% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s apparel industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

Amazon posted 168 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 49.7% over the previous month, followed by Loblaw Companies with 19 jobs and a 20.83% drop. Canadian Tire with 18 IT jobs and Lululemon Athletica with 14 jobs, recorded a 30.77% decline and a 75% flat growth, respectively, while Rakuten Group recorded a decline of 16.67% with 5 job postings during October 2021.

Entry Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Entry Level jobs held a share of 49.12%, down by 42.86% from September 2021. Junior Level positions with a 37.28% share, registered a decline of 43.33% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 13.6% share, down 45.61% over September 2021.
