The top five companies accounted for 42% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that U.S. Department of Defence filed the most advanced materials patents within the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q3 2023. The company filed 6 advanced materials-related patents in the quarter, compared with 2 in the previous quarter. It was followed by RTX with 6 advanced materials patent filings, Electricite de France (6 filings), and CEA (4 filings) in Q3 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 63% share of total patent filings
The largest share of advanced materials related patent filings in the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 63%, followed by Australia (7%) and South Korea (5%). The share represented by the US was 22% higher than the 41% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
