Sepson and Lidan Marine are both globally active companies with strong positions in their respective markets. Sepson manufactures and markets vehicle-mounted winches, while Lidan Marine specialises in winches and handling systems for ships and offshore rigs. Now the two Swedish companies are joining forces to become an even stronger player in the international market.

Sepson, founded in Sweden in 1900, is known worldwide for developing and manufacturing reliable, uncomplicated, vehicle-mounted world-class winches, for use in defence and commercial applications. The company, with operations in Vansbro, Sweden, has 15 employees and sales of SEK 70 million.

Lidan Marine in Lidköping, Sweden, works with marine winch applications and has considerable expertise and resources in naval construction. Lidan Marine has 65 employees and sales of SEK 180 million.

Strategic venture

The ties between these two companies are now being strengthened, with the acquisition by Lidan AB of a majority shareholding in Sepson AB. Mats Elfsberg, who acquired Sepson in 1989, will remain as CEO of the company. The acquisition represents a strategic venture and there will be no reductions in the workforces of the companies in Vansbro and Lidköping.

Both companies sell their products globally and most of production is exported. The aim of the deal is to strengthen competitiveness in the international arena and to create conditions for a quick and resourceful expansion.

Elfsberg said, "This is a development that benefits both companies, we get a higher profile on the international market. We will also have the pleasure of working more closely in terms of technology and product development, and this will make us more successful in our respective markets."

Lidan AB assumed ownership of Sepson on 1 January 2014.
