Meteksan Defence Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary: From National Technology to Global Success

One of Türkiye’s leading defence technology companies, Meteksan Defence, marks the 20th anniversary of its establishment. Founded in 2006 with the mission of developing indigenous, independent, and high-tech systems tailored to the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, the company has achieved significant milestones both domestically and internationally over the past two decades.

Today, with a workforce of over 350 employees, Meteksan Defence continues its operations from its headquarters in Ankara and its office in Istanbul, while expanding its global footprint through offices in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The company delivers advanced solutions across a wide spectrum, including radar and electronic warfare systems, sonar technologies, training simulators, and platform subsystems, addressing the needs of allied and partner nations worldwide.

Two decades of innovation: Product families and key achievements

Since its inception, Meteksan Defence has pursued a growth strategy centred on research and development. Initially entering the sector with radar technologies and simulation systems, the company later expanded into critical domains such as underwater acoustics, data link systems, and electronic warfare. In 2009, it was designated under the ‘Underwater Acoustics Center of Excellence’ approach by the Presidency of Defence Industries, formally recognising its expertise in sonar systems.

Meteksan Defence has developed key solutions for Türkiye’s main defence programs, including data links, radar altimeters and anti-jamming GNSS systems for multiple missile platforms of ROKETSAN, data link and radar systems for unmanned aerial vehicles produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries, and sonar systems for the MİLGEM Project. Through these contributions, the company has strengthened its position as a trusted solution partner for prime contractors.

Among its key products are the Retinar PTR Ground Surveillance Radar for border security; the KAPAN Counter-Drone System; the MERT and MERTER Electronic Attack Systems; and the SEYMEN Navigational Electronic Warfare System. In the naval domain, it delivers submarine sonars and underwater detection systems, while in training technologies, it offers advanced simulators, including damage control, firefighting, and helicopter escape training systems, all successfully delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces.

Meteksan Defence has also achieved notable export success, supplying radar, sonar, simulation, and communication systems to regions including the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Today, its systems are actively used in nearly 30 countries worldwide.

2025: Strengthened global partnerships and high-tech advancements

The year 2025 marked a period of intensified international collaboration and technological advancement for Meteksan Defence. Under a contract signed with UAE-based ADASI, the integration of the MILSAR SAR/MTI Radar into the GARMOOSHA Unmanned Aerial Vehicle was successfully completed, with deliveries finalised within the same year.

Within the scope of the Horizon Europe Programme, supported by the European Commission, the company played a key role in developing a high-tech platform aimed at enhancing the security of critical infrastructure in the aftermath of natural disasters. Leveraging the high-resolution SAR imaging capability of the MILSAR Radar, the project enables real-time data acquisition from the field, strengthening early warning mechanisms.

Meteksan Defence also introduced SIMETRAN, a new brand consolidating its simulation systems under a single umbrella, marking a strategic transformation in training technologies. With the launch of the SUVDES Submarine and Underwater Vehicle Detection System, the company elevated its capabilities in underwater security.

Additionally, the commissioning of a modern production and integration facility significantly enhanced its domestic manufacturing capacity. In the same year, the export of an integrated indigenous sonar suite developed under a contract for the modernisation of a submarine fleet in an Asian country stood out as one of Türkiye’s first achievements in this field.

President Adil Baktır on the 20th Anniversary and Vision for 2026

Commenting on the milestone, Meteksan Defence President Adil Baktır stated: “Over the past 20 years, we have successfully contributed to our country’s defence industry ecosystem through our engineering strength and innovative approach.

The year 2025 was a period in which we deepened our international collaborations, intensified subsystem integration efforts for next-generation unmanned aerial vehicle and missile platforms—particularly as a subcontractor to ROKETSAN and Turkish Aerospace Industries—and achieved critical deliveries. During this time, we also crowned our R&D investments with globally scaled projects.

Today, Meteksan Defence has become one of Türkiye’s largest private-sector companies in defence electronics, with more than 20 product families developed and matured over the years through projects initiated under the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence and the Presidency of Defence Industries. Guided by the values of Bilkent University and Bilkent Holding, we continue to work with great dedication and pride for the security of our nation.

Looking ahead, we will continue to deliver reliable systems tailored to the evolving needs of both the Turkish Armed Forces and allied nations, with advanced technologies developed in line with NATO standards and a cost-effective product portfolio. With systems proven in operational environments, strong production infrastructure, and high manufacturing capacity, we remain committed to delivering our projects on time, cost-effectively, and reliably.

While developing innovative and sustainable solutions through our indigenous engineering capabilities, we also consider contributing to the growth of our defence industry ecosystem through our extensive local supplier network and enhancing our country’s defence exports as a strategic responsibility.”

Strong steps toward the future

Looking ahead, Meteksan Defence aims to deepen its expertise in advanced technologies, expand its international presence, and further strengthen its position as a trusted global solution partner in the defence industry.
