The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has requested an estimated $670m sale of TOW 2B (BGM-71F-series) missiles from the US.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of the possible sale, which has been approved by the US State Department.

Under the proposed sale, Saudi Arabia seeks to acquire up to 6,600 TOW 2B missiles (BGM-71F-series) and 96 TOW 2B (BGM-71F-series) fly-to-buy lot validation missiles and other related equipment and services in support of the weapons.

“TOW is long-range, heavy assault-precision anti-armour, anti-fortification and anti-amphibious landing weapon system.”

The sale package will also cover government-furnished equipment, technical manuals and publications, essential spares and repair parts, live fire exercise and ammunition, as well as tools and test equipment.

Training, transportation, technical and logistic support, repair and return support, quality assurance teams, as well as an in-country field service representative (FSR) are also included.

Raytheon Missile Systems will serve as the principal contractor in connection with the potential sale.

Saudi Arabia is procuring the TOW 2B missiles and technical support to help boost its efforts to develop an integrated ground defence capability, as well as to improve security and increase stability.

The anti-tank missiles will enhance interoperability with US Armed Forces and support US foreign policy and national security objectives.

TOW is long-range, heavy assault-precision anti-armour, anti-fortification and anti-amphibious landing weapon system.

More than 40 international armed forces have deployed the weapon system, which is integrated on over 15,000 ground, vehicle and helicopter platforms.
