Renk Group and KNDS Deutschland have signed a contract extension for the delivery of HSWL 354 transmissions and associated control units destined for the Leopard 2 main battle tank (MBT) and its vehicle family.
The order, worth approximately €130m ($145m), also includes the TCS-354A control units and G4MA11 gear selectors.

Deliveries under the new agreement are scheduled to commence in 2029 and continue through 2032.
These systems are integral to ensuring the operational mobility of the Leopard 2, a platform widely used among Nato and partner states.
The HSWL 354, a hydromechanical transmission system, has been central to the Leopard 2’s design for more than four decades.
According to Renk, over 3,300 Leopard 2 MBTs and related vehicles are in service with 23 countries’ armed forces.
In June this year, the company began production of its 4,000th HSWL 354 transmission, marking a further milestone in the firm’s longstanding collaboration with KNDS Deutschland.
The transmission is capable of handling engine power up to 1,300 kW and is designed for vehicles weighing between 50 and 70 tonnes, featuring four speed ranges in both forward and reverse.
Renk Group CEO Dr. Alexander Sagel said: “The Leopard 2 is the backbone of Western armed forces. For decades, our HSWL 354 has ensured that troops can rely on the mobility of their vehicle under all conditions.
“The extension of the order reflects the trust that KNDS has in our technology and ability to deliver. Together, we are making our contribution to help the Bundeswehr and Nato forces acquire the capabilities they need to defend Europe.”
In December last year, Renk secured more than €45m in contracts to provide transmissions including the HSWL 256, HSWL 354, and AGB300 models, for integration into the Bundeswehr’s vehicles.
