On the fringes of the Nato summit in Washington on 9 July, Nato’s Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) signed a contract for the procurement of 940 FIM-92K Stinger Block I Missiles from RTX on behalf of Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, worth $780m.
The deal follows approval from the US State Department for a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) granted in December 2023, and the contract will be awarded through the Stinger Support Partnership framework established in 1990.

“Multinational, multi-year procurement opportunities like this ensure Allies can meet their capability targets, respond to national requirements, and continue to provide support to Ukraine,” said Rachel Ellehuus, Secretary of Defense Representative in Europe and Defense Advisor for the US Mission to Nato.
Consolidated through the NSPA, the multi-year, multi-national contract provides substantial savings for the Alliance member nations, and supports the Defence Production Action Plan to enhance engagement with the defence industry.
“As Nato’s lead organisation for acquisition, support and sustainment, NSPA provides Allies and Partner Nations with effective multinational solutions through proven legal frameworks. The consolidation of requirements results in economies of scale, significantly reducing costs and logistics footprint, and offers additional operational benefits, such as commonality beyond interoperability,” said Stacy Cummings, NSPA General Manager.
In the announcement of the FMS approval from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the proposed sale included Battery Coolant Units (BCU), metal containers, US Government and contractor assistance, and logistics and program support.
