Rheinmetall has announced the successful completion of formal qualification tests and quality inspection of the tactical headgear being developed for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr).
This marks a key milestone in the delivery and fielding of the new combat helmets for the German forces.

The recent tests have been completed for the first three lots of combat helmets from the subsequent deliveries to the German forces.
The combat headgear is one item of equipment ordered by the German Ministry of Defence (MoD) to equip the Bundeswehr as the security situation changed in Europe.
Earlier this month, German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht received the delivery of the first items of the order, including military clothing and personal equipment.
The initial order placed with Rheinmetall in December 2020 included the delivery of up to 20,000 units of the ‘Combat Helmet, Special Forces, Heavy’ advanced tactical headgear.

By GlobalDataIn the same month in 2020, the company delivered the first 5,000 units to the German forces.
Initially, the MoD was planning to field the new helmets only for the country’s special operations forces and specialised troops, to expand their capabilities to undertake special operations and support Nato’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) 2023.
In March this year, the Bundeswehr decided to expand the initial order to cover the German Armed Forces. The new model was then referred as ‘Combat Helmet, Armed Forces’.
The order includes 300,000 helmets, with deliveries scheduled between 2022 and 2025.
It is worth over €200m and is being executed by Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics of Stockach, in collaboration with its two strategic partners.
So far, the company has delivered approximately 34,000 helmets and the delivery of another 11,000 units is expected to be complete by this year’s end.
