German manufacturer Rheinmetall has won an order to deliver the Skynex air defence system to an undisclosed international customer.
The order is worth approximately €182m and will see the company supply two of the systems to the customer.

Scheduled to be delivered in early 2024, the Skynex air defence system will strengthen the customer’s defence abilities against aerial threats.
Rheinmetall has also signed a memorandum of understanding to supply HX trucks. The company has not disclosed the number of trucks that will be delivered, but noted that the total value is approximately €12m.
The company will handover the trucks along with the Skynex systems.
Featuring an open architecture, the Skynex system is designed as a solution for short-range air defence.
The cost-effective system protects assets, such as vital military and civil infrastructure, against air strikes in all-weather conditions.
It is capable of engaging aircraft, cruise missiles, tactical drones, air-to-ground-missiles, mortars, and artillery rockets.
The Skynex system includes the Oerlikon Skymaster Battle Management System, Oerlikon X-TAR3D tactical acquisition radar, and the remote controlled Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk3.
The gun uses the programmable 35mm Ahead ammunition and can hit small targets. Once deployed in the field, the gun is fully remote controlled, providing superior firepower and accuracy.
In a statement, Rheinmetall said that the effectiveness of 35mm gun-based air defence was recently highlighted in Ukraine with ‘the success of the self-propelled Flakpanzer Gepard antiaircraft system‘.
