The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) of air and missile defence systems to Kuwait.
Valued at approximately $3bn, the proposed sale has also been approved by the US State Department.

As part of this deal, the Government of Kuwait has requested to purchase National Advanced Surface-To-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) and Medium Range Air Defence Systems, along with seven AN/MPQ-64FI Sentinel radars and related equipment.
The FMS also includes 63 each of AIM-120C-8 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM), AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II tactical missiles, and AMRAAM-extended range missiles, accompanied by related guidance units and 12 Multifunctional Information Distribution Systems – low volume terminal (MIDS LVT) Block Upgrade-2, and 12 MIDS LVT cryptographic modules.
The sale package also includes fire distribution and tactical control centres, canister launcher systems, radar communication nodes, and AN/PSN-13 defence advanced GPS Receivers (DAGR), with a selective availability anti-spoofing module.
It also involves repair/return, software, classified/unclassified publications, and technical documentation/assistance support.

By GlobalDataRaytheon Missiles and Defense will be the prime contractor for this FMS.
In a statement, DSCA said: “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the US by helping to improve the security of a major non-Nato ally that has been an important force for political stability and economic progress in Middle East.”
Delivery of the requested systems will enhance the capability of Kuwait to counter existing and emerging adversaries while strengthening interoperability with systems operated by the US and other Gulf nations’ forces.
The agency noted that the execution of the FMS will require the deployment three US government and five contractor representatives to Kuwait for equipment familiarisation and support.
It will also involve assigning six contractors to Kuwait to provide three-year follow-on equipment support.
