The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a potential sale of 603 GBU-39/B small-diameter bombs 1 (SDB1) and related equipment, parts, training and logistical support to the Netherlands.

The estimated $44m foreign military sale will improve the military capabilities of the Netherlands and enhanced standardisation and interoperability with US forces.

The weapon will support and enhance the Netherlands’ ability to destroy protected, high-value targets such as command and control nodes, and weapons storage facilities.

The Boeing Corporation in Missouri will be the principal contractor and there are no known offset agreements in connection with the sale.

The sale will be the first sale of the weapon to the Netherlands.

The notice of the possible sale is in subjection under the foreign policy and national security objectives of the US.
