BAE Systems has signed a new seven-year agreement to support the availability and continuous modernisation of Norway’s CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) fleet.

As part of the new agreement, BAE will support, sustain, and maintain the readiness and availability of the Norwegian Army’s 144 CV90 IFVs.

Signed with the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation (NDLO), the agreement also covers components and equipment procurement, as well as management and engineering work.

NDLO head major general Lars Christian Aamodt said: “We are pleased to sign this contract to further secure the CV90 fleet for the future, both for ongoing sustainment and incremental capability upgrades.

“We have one of the world’s most modern infantry fighting vehicles, able to advance combined arms with air and sea systems. With this contract, we aim to stay in this position for many years to come.”

It also includes maintenance of the system integration lab. This lab ensures that both the customer and the company can monitor vehicles’ current conditions and readiness state to help optimise the performance and capabilities of the fleet.

According to BAE Systems, the incremental upgrades and improvements will be executed as a joint effort between the Norwegian Army, the local industry, and BAE Systems Hägglunds.

BAE Systems Hägglunds is the manufacturer of the CV90 fleet.

The CV90 vehicle is currently used by the armies of Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, Estonia, and Denmark.

More than 1,300 vehicles are in service in multiple variants.

BAE Systems Hägglunds managing director Tommy Gustafsson-Rask said: “We look forward to strengthening the trust and cooperation we have with our Norwegian customer, and building on the positive experiences with our Norwegian industry partners who are an essential part of this contract.”

In November 2021, BAE Systems announced its plans to acquire US-based software company Bohemia Interactive Simulations.
