It allows the user to recognise people and vehicles from far distances, irrespective of the time of day and other weather conditions.

According to Rostec, the device is produced in two modifications namely, Sych-PR-S (medium-range) and Sych-PR-D (long-range).

Sych-PR-D features a ‘cooled thermal imager’ with a 3nm-5nm operating spectral range, while Sych-PR-S uses an ‘uncooled thermal imager’ with an 8nm-12nm range.

Both the medium and long-range versions are fitted with a digital magnetic compass and a satellite navigator.

The project is being executed by TsNII Tsiklon.

Tsiklon Central Research Institute general director Pyotr Kovalev said: “The Sych instrument line is a multifunctional, reliable electronic optics with an effective set of technical characteristics. The devices allow you to detect people and equipment at a distance of up to 3 and 4km respectively.

“The built-in laser rangefinder works at a distance of 100m to 5km. The equipment has successfully passed the factory tests, and now preparations are underway for acceptance tests.

“It is planned that the serial production of the products will begin before the end of the year.”
