AM General’s blast resistant vehicle-off-road (BRV-O) has been selected by the US Army and Marine Corps’ for the engineering, manufacturing and development (EMD) phase of their Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) programme.
Under the terms of the $64.5m contract, the company will manufacture and deliver 22 prototypes of its BRV-O vehicles for government testing.

Commenting about the selection, AM General president and CEO Charles Hall said, ”BRV-O is ready now to meet warfighter’s demands for a new light tactical vehicle."
Equipped with an efficient, high-performance engine, the BRV-O is a multi-role vehicle designed to meet or exceed 100% of the JLTV EMD phase evaluation criteria for protection, performance, payload, transportability, reliability and affordability.
The vehicle is equipped with energy-absorbing seats, a self-levelling suspension system, crew capsule, shaped underbody and modular armour, which have already proven effective during government-supervised blast-testing.
Also included are a command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) backbone with open-standard networked architecture and clustered super-computing power, plus other advanced subsystems.

By GlobalDataBRV-O can be rapidly transported by air, land and sea platforms and is designed to readily adapt to future changes in the US military mission requirements, tactics and emerging threats.
The company’s joint venture with General Dynamics Land Systems, called General Tactical Vehicles (GTV), also offered the Double-V hulled Eagle vehicle for the EMD phase.
The JLTV programme is aimed at replacing the Army and Marine Corps’ fleet of rapidly ageing high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs), which have been in active service for over 25 years.
The army is planning to purchase at least 50,000 vehicles with options for additional units, while the Marines could acquire 5,500 vehicles.
