The contract will see the company equip IDF’s new wheeled fighting vehicles with the Iron Fist Light Decoupled (IFLD) systems.

The Iron Fist system features optical sensors, tracking radar, launchers and countermeasure munitions that help defeat the target from a safe distance.

Elbit Systems land division executive vice-president and general manager Yehuda (Udi) Vered said: “We are proud to be in a position to provide the IDF with such an important operational capability.

“This award adds to the growing interest in the Iron Fist by many modern armed forces who seek to enhance the protection capabilities of their AFVs.”

The lightweight, small-sized IFLD system is capable of offering 360° protection coverage for close-range scenarios in open terrains and urban surroundings.

The versatile nature and negligible residual penetration have enhanced the efficiency and ease of integration of the system.

It is an optimal APS for any fighting vehicle due to its high performance and effectiveness, claimed Elbit Systems.

A week earlier, another contract valued at $144m was signed between Elbit Systems and IMOD for the supply of small calibre ammunition.

Work on the five-year contract is to commence in 2021.
