Overview

The miniEXPLONIX Pro is a highly sensitive, portable trace explosives detection system for fast and reliable detection of all ICAO standard explosives down to nano-gram level. These include TATP and other homemade explosives as well as all types of plastic explosives (e.g. TNT/PETN/RDX based, like SEMTEX, C4, etc.) both marked with taggant and with no taggant added.

Technology used

The miniEXPLONIX Pro is designed to detect explosive traces. Such traces may appear on various surfaces that have come into contact with individuals who previously handled explosive materials, as well as on surfaces directly contaminated by explosives. Detection is based on Infra-Red sampling (IRSSIL), allowing the immediate release of even non-volatile traces. The Infra-Red sampling principle (IRSSIL), patented by RS DYNAMICS, ensures reliable detection even in situations where non-volatile explosives cannot be sampled using standard, commonly known sampling or detection techniques. Continuous Infra-Red sampling represents the core advantage of the miniEXPLONIX Pro over other technologies, because Infra-Red sampling provides an unmatched solution for releasing and sampling all types of explosives, including unmarked, low vapor pressure explosives such as SEMTEX, C4, and similar materials, in a practical, easy-to-use, and rapid vapor mode. In addition, the miniEXPLONIX Pro operates continuously with instant readings, meaning the operator does not need to wait for the traditional “sampling–preconcentration–analysis” cycle used by currently available explosive detectors. The miniEXPLONIX Pro delivers an immediate response within seconds, enabling operators to localize explosive traces instantly without wasting of valuable time.

Operation

The miniEXPLONIX Pro is purpose-built for real-world field operations, where reliability, speed, and ease of use are critical. Its proven durability is trusted by organizations worldwide, including police units, security services, and armed forces. The device is engineered to perform in the harshest environments, from extreme desert heat to severe arctic cold, without compromising accuracy, stability, or long-term operational performance.

The miniEXPLONIX Pro is highly resistant to interference from common chemicals such as perfumes, fuels, and environmental odors, ensuring consistent and dependable detection results in complex and unpredictable conditions. A key operational advantage is its rapid cold start capability, allowing the device to become fully operational within just 15 seconds, even after prolonged storage in low temperatures.

Designed for intuitive use under pressure, the device features a simple one-button control system. The first press initiates the scan, the second press terminates it, and the process can be immediately repeated as required. Neither cleaning cycle nor bake-out procedure needed. The straightforward operation minimizes training requirements enabling fast, confident, and effective use during critical missions in demanding operational environments worldwide.

Sampling

Sampling can be performed using two methods: Particulate Sampling with proven Sampling Strips, or Direct Vapor Sampling.

Particulate Sampling is the recommended approach and provides the best response from the miniEXPLONIX Pro. In this method, explosive traces are mechanically collected by swabbing the target surface with a sampling strip. The collected sample is then thermally desorbed at the nose of the miniEXPLONIX Pro, evaporated, and drawn into the device for subsequent detection. This process is carried out under controlled conditions, ensuring optimal target release and the highest possible detection yield.

Direct Vapor Sampling eliminates the need for sampling strips and is best suited for objects with low heat capacity or conductivity. Typical applications include clothing, textiles, leather bags, boarding passes, passports, credit cards, ID cards, tickets, documents, photographs, and other personal items. This method is not suitable for objects with high heat capacity or conductivity, such as metal objects, plastics, surfaces, locks, tables, door handles, vehicle surfaces, steering wheels, or gear levers. For such materials, Sampling Strips should always be used.
