Teledyne FLIR Defense has secured a $48m contract from the US Army to provide nuclear, biological and chemical reconnaissance vehicle sensor suite upgrades for Bulgaria’s Stryker fleet.
The award was made by the US Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, under a Foreign Military Sales agreement supporting Bulgaria’s military modernisation, the company said.

Bulgaria is acquiring nearly 200 US-made Stryker armoured vehicles to replace its Soviet-era tactical vehicle fleet and improve interoperability with Nato forces.
According to Teledyne FLIR Defense, 10 of the vehicles will receive the upgraded reconnaissance systems.
The sensor suite is designed to detect chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats from a distance. It includes autonomous sensors, a command-and-control system and the FLIR Defense R80D SkyRaider uncrewed aircraft fitted with the MUVE B330 biological detection payload.
The company said the command-and-control system combines information from the sensors and platforms through sensor fusion and automation. The upgraded suites will be integrated at Teledyne FLIR facilities after the vehicles are delivered to Bulgaria.
Work on the programme is expected to continue through 2028 across several of the company’s US facilities.
Teledyne FLIR is the lead integrator for the US Army’s NBCRV sensor suite modernisation programme. Following development and testing, it began delivering upgraded suites to US Army units in 2025.
The Bulgaria award follows a contract announced in January worth up to $32m for thermal imaging sights and radar systems for the country’s Stryker fleet. That equipment is intended to provide vehicle crews with 360-degree visibility and long-range threat detection.
Since 2024, Teledyne FLIR said it had received contract vehicles worth more than $240m in support of the sensor suite upgrade programme.
Teledyne defense and aerospace group president and Teledyne Technologies senior vice-president JihFen Lei said: “The upgraded Stryker vehicles will provide Bulgaria with the most advanced mounted CBRN reconnaissance capabilities in Europe.
“Together, our two Stryker modernisation efforts highlight the breadth of sensor solutions Teledyne FLIR can deliver to Nato allies and partners, helping warfighters detect, identify and respond effectively to an array of battlefield threats.”
