Thales Programas and Europavia will maintain communications and electronics systems of the Spanish Army's helicopters.

The contract awarded to the joint venture is valued at €1.5m and valid until 2019. It also comes with an option to extend the contract term until 2020.

Work provided under the contract includes both corrective and preventive maintenance of navigation systems, communications, inertial navigation, control panels, indicators, temperature probes, radars and electric compasses of helicopters.

Thales Programas and Europavia will also be responsible for the supply of spares, equipment, and tools for the aircraft.

The helicopters covered under the maintenance and inspection contract are HT17 (Chinook CH-47D), HU18 (Agusta AB212), HU21 Super Puma, HE-26 (Eco-Charlie-135), HT27 (Cougar AS532UL) HA28 (Tiger) and NH90.

The Spanish Armed Forces received the 300th NH90 production helicopter from NH Industries in December 2016.

The aircraft will be operated by the Spanish Army’s aviation branch, Fuerzas Aeromóviles del Ejército de Tierra (FAMET).

Thales Programas provides command and control systems, tactical communications and modelling and simulation addressing solutions for defence and security applications.
