Nammo has successfully carried out a live-fire demonstration of its 40mmx53 High-Velocity (HV) Airburst ammunition at a training range at Fort Benning, Georgia, US.

Attended by US Army, US Marine Corps and US Southern Command officials, the demonstration included a comprehensive series of successful firings in single shot and burst mode against static targets, which were located at 350m and 500m.

The trials formed part of the successful Mk19 crew-combat systems demonstration.

Nammo Marketing and Sales vice-president Jan Hasslid said: "We wanted our customers to get a hands-on experience and to know what to expect from our products, [such as] the easy integration with fire control systems, the minimal weapon modification and how they perform in a tactical situation.

"The response from the audience was extremely positive, confirming the demonstration to be a great success."

The 40mmx53 HV Airburst is being offered for the US Army’s Anti-Defilade ammunition requirement.

The round is the latest available for the Mk19 automatic grenade launcher (AGL) system, which provides soldiers with the capability to defeat targets in an urban warfare scenario.

The modular ammunition is also expected to enable the army to rework the M430 A1 inventory.

Nammo’s 40mm Airburst solutions have added a new dimension to the Mk19’s and the associated ammunitions portfolio, since their introduction.
