Australia will soon award a A$100m contract to upgrade combat helmets worn by its soldiers in Afghanistan, Defence Materiel minister Jason Clare revealed.

Under the potential contract, around 1,500 combat helmets will be fitted with new padding and harnesses.

Additional upgrades will include better integrated night vision equipment and the provision of enhanced blunt impact protection.

Work on the contract will be undertaken by Diggerworks in the first quarter of next year.

The team recently completed and delivered 2,000 upgraded helmets to Australian soldiers.
