The US mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) Joint Program Office (JPO) has awarded $629m to BAE Systems to upgrade 1,700 Caiman MRAP vehicles.
The upgraded vehicle, called the Caiman multiterrain vehicle (MTV), will provide high mobility and survivability for challenging and varied environments, and enemy threats.

The vehicle also provides a combination of interior capacity, tactical mobility, operator comfort and survivability.
The upgraded HVAC temperature control system in the vehicle will protect soldiers and critical computer equipment from extreme hot and cold conditions.
Work will be carried out in Texas, with the vehicles delivered to the JPO beginning November 2010.
