Thales has launched the first dual handheld software radio terminal, F@stnet-Twin, at Eurosatory 2010 defence trade show in Paris, France.

The F@stnet-Twin is a compact, multirole and lightweight radio with two independent channels that provides greater connectivity and interoperability between soldiers in the field.

The radio combines a high-end performance VHF solution with a flexible UHF module in one radio and provides both UHF and VHF waveforms.

The software radio uses these channels to provide simultaneous voice, data and video services to soldiers to communicate with each other while connected to command posts.

The body-worn solution also automatically initiates radio parameters for easy operation and deployment.

The handheld software radio provides access to various applications including GPS, messaging services, remote control and a Blue Force Tracking application.
