The US Army has awarded a contract to General Dynamics Land Systems to provide technical support services for the Army’s Abrams main battle tanks.

Under the $37m contract, the company will perform engineering studies on Abrams main battle tanks to identify improvements and replace obsolete parts to maintain the operational readiness of the tanks.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and is expected to be complete by 19 December 2011.

The contract was awarded by the US Army TACOM Life-Cycle Management Command of Warren, Michigan.
