Selex Galileo will provide its Mini Colibrì and Land Optronic Thermal Aiming Resource (Lothar) systems to the Italian Army under a contract awarded by Oto Melara.

Under the $23m contract, Selex will supply 81 Mini Colibrì day and night vision systems for installation on the turrets of the Army’s Lince vehicles and 71 Lothar systems to be installed on its VBM Freccia vehicles.

The Mini Colibrì is the latest fire control system for turrets that integrates small to medium calibre weaponry and features a thermal camera, TV camera and laser range finder.

Lothar is a multi sensor system that can be integrated into turrets from small to high calibres, which is specifically designed for Fire Control Systems equipped with the Tilde thermal camera.

The Italian Army’s Lince vehicle is a light multi-role vehicle that provides high tactical mobility with maximum road speed as well as high protection levels against anti tank and anti personnel mines.

Tthe Army’s VBM Freccia medium-armoured vehicle is a new family of medium armoured vehicles in several variants, which include Personnel Carrier, Combat / transport of mechanised infantry, Command Post, Recovery, Mortar Carrier and Ambulance.
