The US Army has awarded a contract to Oshkosh Corporation to deliver an additional 400 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) all-terrain vehicles (M-ATV).

The Oshkosh M-ATV features a TAK-4 suspension system, which provides 16in of independent wheel travel and a 70% off-road profile capability.

M-ATVs protect the crew from improvised explosive devices and provide side slope stability, vehicle durability, extreme mobility and enhanced crew protection.

Deliveries, under the recent $175m contract, will run to May 2010.

To date, Oshkosh has received six awards valued at $3.3bn to deliver a total of 6,619 M-ATVs.

The contract has been awarded by the US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) and the Life-Cycle Management Command (LCMC).
