Each infantry combat vehicle can carry up to ten soldiers.

The army is expecting the new APCs to be air and sea portable in addition to having advanced weaponry, night-fighting capabilities, and nuclear, chemical and biological protection.

The plan to procure additional armoured carriers was announced following the recent Indo-US joint exercise Yudh Abhyas at Babina where the US Army demonstrated its Stryker combat vehicles as well as the Javelin anti-tank guided missiles.

The armoured carriers will be manufactured indigenously following transfer of technology to an Indian company.
