The US Army Research Development and Engineering Command Acquisition Center has awarded a $19.3m contract to high-technology engineering and manufacturing company ITT Corporation to deliver AN/PVS-14 night vision monocular devices.
The AN/PVS-14 is a lightweight and reliable night vision monocular that provides enhanced resolution for mobility and target identification.
The goggles operate on a single AA battery and are equipped with ITT’s thin-filmed Generation 3 Pinnacle image intensifier tube, which is over ten times better at detecting available light than previous generations.
The multifunctional night vision system can be a hand-held as a monocular, or head or helmet mounted as a single-eye goggle, or weapon-mounted as a night scope.
80% of the goggles will be delivered to the air force, with the remainder going to the army and the navy.
